Lent Devotional - Day 11

Read John 6:1-24

At the height of his ministry, thousands of people followed Jesus. Although Jesus knows their hearts, he has compassion enough to feed them. In this instance, they counted around five thousand men, so there may be thousands more women and children.

I love how Jesus works. He always takes what we have to offer no matter how small or insignificant it may be to work his miracles. At Cana, he took the waters for ceremonial cleansing to turn them into wine and today he takes some kid’s bagged lunch of 5 mini loaves and two small fish to feed all the people.

God also does this with Moses when he asks him what’s in his hands. God used his ordinary walking stick to do tremendous miracles in the desert.

One thing to note is that God is the God of abundance. After everyone has had their fill, they collected twelves baskets full of pieces of barley loaves. What kind of God do you serve?

We see in today’s reading, he is able to meet the physical needs of his followers with abundance and he is able to walk and stand above the storms of this life. Nothing can stop Jesus.

When we walk with Jesus, nothing can separate us from him and nothing will stop him from reaching us. We serve a mighty God who is generous and compassionate. As we fully surrender to him all that we have and all that we are, he will use it all for his glory and for the blessing of many.
