Lent Devotional - Day 13

Read John 7:1-24

Today we see Jesus under pressure. The crowd has left him, the religious leaders are looking for ways to kill him, and his own brothers mock him. When we look at Jesus, we are not looking at a man divided, having different priorities, but a man with a singular focus. Jesus’ focus is to do the will of the Father.

Even under pressure, Jesus is consistent and his faith is unwavering. He does have to change up his travel plans, but he still carries out all that the Father wants him to do. He teaches with power and authority, and he confronts the hypocrisy of religious elite. While people are concerned with whether they are being good religious people, Jesus is doing God’s will.

How about you? When the pressures of life heat up, where do you go? What is your focus in life? What’s your goal? Are you juggling multiple priorities in life or have you surrendered them all to Jesus, so that your singular focus is on obeying Jesus?

—————————————————————

Lord Jesus, I know that my heart and my mind is often scattered and burdened with so many things I have to do. I am constantly being pulled by the priorities of this world, my desires, and also my desires to please you. Forgive me for being double-minded, but grant me the integrity and the singular focus I need to do your will. I choose to no longer be religious, but to be in intimate relationship with you. My goal is to love you more and more through obedience. Lead me and guide me today. Allow me to be a blessing wherever I go. May your will be done in and through my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
