Lent Devotional - Day 15

Read John 8:1-30.

Jesus makes it clear that as we follow him we are to leave our lives of sin. He does not condemn us because of our sin, but meets us where we are and comes to our defence. The times we are living in is a special time of amnesty, where Jesus calls everyone of us to receive forgiveness and new life by walking with him.

However, if we don’t walk with Jesus then we remain already condemned and we remain in sin.

Jesus declares to the Pharisees that he does nothing on his own, but that he does everything to please the Father. In this, Jesus sets himself up as an example for us to follow as this is the mind of Christ. He lives and has his being always in relationship and in dependence of the Father. He doesn’t have a great idea and just does it, but everything he does, he does it in obedience and as he is led.

Our lives are to look the same. Less of us and more of him. To walk with Jesus, is to have fully surrendered our lives to Jesus so that he is truly the Lord over our lives. It is now simply an exercise in obedience. Now in order to obey, we must listen for his directions and commands. This is where we need the discipline of reading the Bible and listening prayers.

Daily and any moment where you can pause, bend your ear to Jesus and practice listening to him. As you obey, you will learn to recognize his voice more and more.
