Lent Devotional - Day 6

Read John 3:22-36

John the Baptist, even though he is from the earth, has his mind on heavenly things. He does not look at his life nor judges his circumstances by worldly standards, but by heavenly standards. He knows with great certainty that Jesus must increase and he must decrease. This is exactly what must happen with each of us. In each of our lives, the rule and reign of Jesus must become greater and our own grip on our lives must become less. The Christian life is a life of surrender to God. Do I trust in God’s love? Do I trust in his promises? Do I trust in his faithfulness?

Our actions and how we live will reveal the answers ever so clearly. Jesus is not our Lord and Saviour as long as we maintain control of our lives. Jesus is truly the Lord and Saviour of our lives when we relinquish control over to him and we live lives of obedience. This is how we show him that we love him, through obedience. Our words and religious activities amount to little without obedience to his words.

“The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in the his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.”

One of the wonderful things about God is that he always leads by example. Will you love the Son and place everything in his hands? God invites you to believe in Jesus; live in alignment with your belief and receive eternal life. Let Jesus increase in your life today.
