Lent - Day 2

May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.  (2 Peter 1:2, ESV)

The Apostle Peter’s opening blessing points us in the right direction of how we grow in our relationship with Jesus. Just like in our day-to-day relationship with others, in order for us to grow in friendship and in intimacy, we must spend more time getting to know one another. Relationships do not magically get better and stronger, but requires intentional times spent and experiences had…together.

The more time spent with the other person the more you are going to grow in knowledge of them; not just factual knowledge, but understand their character, motivations, hopes, dreams, and desires. In Matthew 7:21-23, the reason given why some people are cast away is because “I never knew you.”

We know the saying that knowledge is power, but in our case, intimate knowledge of Jesus is salvation. How much have you invested into your relationship with Jesus? Has it been a begrudging experience or are you delighted to get to know Jesus more and in turn open yourself up to Him that He might know you.

During the Lenten season, open your heart to Jesus and let him in, let him see you and get to know you as you really are. Drop the religious mask and may grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
