Lent - Day 20

if by turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction, making them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; (2 Peter 2:6, ESV)

The third example of God’s judgement that the Apostle Peter reminds us of is Sodom and Gomorrah. Why does he spend so much time telling us of God’s judgement? There are many today that understand God to be slow to act and reticent to punish.

But we have to understand that God is slow to anger and is being patient with the whole world; giving us time to repent and turn from our ways. We are currently living in a season of grace, but God will judge and He will punish the wicked.

We are to take heart and solace in the reality of His justice. The fury of wrath is will be massive and unrelenting, and we do not appreciate it yet, but thank God for his long suffering.
