Lent - Day 23
14 They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children! 15 Forsaking the right way, they have gone astray. They have followed the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved gain from wrongdoing, 16 but was rebuked for his own transgression; a speechless donkey spoke with human voice and restrained the prophet’s madness. (2 Peter 2:14–16, ESV)
Not only is it problematic that these Christians have forsaken the right way, but they entice others to do the same. The Apostle Peter likens them to Balaam, the prophet for profit who continually tried to curse the Israelites, but God would only allow him to bless.
If we are unwilling to love God with our whole hearts then we are like Balaam. Does it actually make a difference if we love God 90% or 10%? No, because the command is to the love the Lord our God with ALL our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
This is the journey of discipleship and of following Jesus. We are learning to love and obey God 100%. We do not resign ourselves to failure, but the whole point is continued growth. So do not lose heart and do not give up, but continue to pursue God wholeheartedly, as He perfectly loves and pursues us.
