Lent - Day 24

17 These are waterless springs and mists driven by a storm. For them the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved. 18 For, speaking loud boasts of folly, they entice by sensual passions of the flesh those who are barely escaping from those who live in error. 19 They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved.  (2 Peter 2:17–19, ESV)

True relationship with Jesus brings freedom and redemption. We are no longer enslaved to our desires and addictions. But too many people partake in powerless Christianity, just religion and do gooding.

What good news is it, if nothing changes and there is no power, and there is no freedom?

Woe to those that preach and teach hypocrisy! Woe to those that claim to walk in freedom in Christ, but choose to remain in the kingdom of darkness. Woe to those who have been set free by the blood of the Perfect Lamb of God, and waltzes back into captivity for the love of pleasure.

We, however put to death our flesh and crucify our lusts and passions, walk in step with the Holy Spirit. As new creation, we abandon our old ways of thinking, perceiving, and reacting to life. We adopt the mind of Christ and conform to the image of Jesus.

Let us press forward earnestly to win the prize for which the Lord calls us onward!
