Lent - Day 6
For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. (2 Peter 1:9, ESV)
The Apostle Peter makes it clear that as believers we are to grow and mature in embodying Christ-like character as outlined in verses 5-6. Unfortunately, we can actually be blind Christians when we choose not to make every effort to grow in knowledge of Jesus.
These are the “believers” that Jesus condemns at the end as never having known them in Matthew 7:21-23. Christianity is not about religious duty and piety in and of themselves, but obedience that is an outpouring of our love for Jesus.
We are cleansed from our sins for his purpose. We are saved to do his will. We are not redeemed so that we can continue to live as we deem fit. We belong to Him and He is our Lord and Saviour.
Let us ask Jesus to open our eyes that we might see clearly and give us ears to hear that we may listen and understand and obey.
