Lent Devotional - Day 18
Read John 9:13-41.
The Pharisees grill the man who once was blind about Jesus, not just once but twice. They even bring his parents in to verify whether this man was even really blind. The man does not hesitate to share his testimony about his encounter with Jesus.
As a result of him sharing his testimony he is kicked out of the synagogue which is the central place of community and faith for Jews. But because of this man’s faith and faithfulness, Jesus comes to him and reveals himself to him.
When we believe in Jesus, an important part of that process is the confession of our sins and repenting and renouncing our former way of living. When we acknowledge our sinfulness and our need for Jesus, we are walking in the light and living in truth.
If we can’t see our own sinfulness and or need for Jesus, then we are the ones that are actually spiritually blind. Although there is no condemnation in Jesus, there is conviction of sin, which is a great gift. As we walk more and more into the light of Jesus, we will continually discover the depth of our own wickedness and marvel and worship Jesus for his ever increasing love and mercy that saves us.
May God grant all of us the opportunity to share our testimony with others and may we not fear people, but God alone.
