Lent Devotional - Day 24
Read John 12: 37-50.
What a crazy thing to have Jesus himself performing all kinds of miracles and being able to see and listen to him personally teach and preach, and yet not believe.
Being able to believe in Jesus is a massive gift. This is the probably one of the greatest miracles that we often overlook. Many of us take our faith for granted and as a given, but the truth is not everyone can believe like we believe. Do you cherish and nurture this gift of God in your life?
Many leaders believed in Jesus, but were afraid of the cultural police of their day. Even in Jesus’ day, it was not cool to believe in Jesus and perhaps outright dangerous because you could lose your job, and standing in society. What are you afraid of? Why do you hold back from fully surrendering your life to Jesus?
Jesus tells us that when we believe in him we are walking in the light and that we need to come out of the darkness: a decision we must make and an action that we must take. He also makes it clear that when we hear his words, we are to keep them, that is to put them into practice in our lives. To not put Jesus’ words into action in our lives, means that we reject his words in our lives, and although he does not judge us nor condemn us, we will be held accountable and judged accordingly. Jesus loves you and wants the best for you. Don’t be afraid.
Let us not simply be passionate hearers of God’s words, but diligent doers of them.
