Lent Devotional - Day 25

Read John 13:1-17.

In this world we have a particular view of power and authority and how one should wield it. As Jesus washes the disciples feet, he upends their view and understanding of what it means to be Lord and Saviour.

Jesus sets out a clear precedent that in the Kingdom of God, true power is humility and true authority is service. He carries out the duty of a servant, by washing their feet.

Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.

Since Jesus our King willingly serves us, it’s obvious that we are to do the same. He is our example to follow. So how are you serving your brothers and sisters? When was the last time you served and honoured another?

Again let’s not simply take this in as a mere lesson to learn, but put it into practice. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
