Lent - Day 12
17 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” 18 we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. (2 Peter 1:17–18, ESV)
The Apostle Peter affirms that not only did they see God, but they heard the voice of the Father confirming Jesus as the unique beloved son. As believers, this is also our heritage and birthright that we can see God move and work in our lives and all around us, and that we can hear His voice.
Remember that from verse 1, we are assured that we have obtained a faith in equal standing to the Apostles, so this is not out of reach for us. The difficulty however is often our lack of knowledge of our rights and responsibilities as sons and daughters of the Most High.
In Hosea 4:6, God says that His people are destroyed for lack knowledge. If as His children we are not aware that we can see Him and hear Him then we will not be looking out for Him nor listening for His voice.
If the Father loves Jesus and is pleased with Him, then how much will He love us and be pleased with us who are washed in His blood and have His Spirit in us. Let us then be confident in our identity and standing before the Father and live to do His will, just as Jesus was pleased to do the Father’s will.
