Lent - Day 28
knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. (2 Peter 3:3, ESV)
To scoff is to show contempt and to laugh at; in the last days, we are told that those who show contempt for God and His words will come. They will be following their own sinful desires.
This is an important juxtaposition between believers and unbelievers. Believers will revere and honour God’s words and they will deny themselves, carry their cross, and follow Jesus daily, whereas the unbelievers will do the very opposite.
Everyone will receive the fruit of their beliefs in the end and God will have the last laugh. “Accepting” Jesus in your heart is very different looking and feeling than actually following Jesus by obeying Him.
Do not merely accept Jesus, but become His disciple.
