Lent - Day 31
and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. (2 Peter 3:6, ESV)
The Apostle Peter reminds us again how God has already judged the world once before. This is so that we do not lose sight of the fact we are currently living in a season of grace, however this too shall pass. God is simply allowing the tares to grow with the wheat until the harvest time. When the harvest comes then the tares will be gathered and thrown into the fire, while the wheat is gathered in.
We should not think that God is somehow unable to judge or is slow to act. God is being patient with all of us. His desire is that none should perish, but we know that not everyone will choose to surrender their lives to Jesus. This is exactly what is needed when we come to Jesus; a wholesale surrendering of our lives to Jesus.
Let us then give careful thought to how we live because everyone will have to give an account of how they have lived and even the very words they have spoken. Let us all work out our salvation with fear and trembling before we get have to stand in front of the judgement seat.
