Lent - Day 9

Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have.  (2 Peter 1:12, ESV)

Why does the Apostle Peter intend to remind us even though he knows we know them and are established in the truth? Simply put because we forget. As believers we need constant reminders and regular encouragements from one another who are walking in the same truth. As the holy people of God who are in the world and not of it, it is so easy for us to get fooled into thinking that this world and its ways are our world and our ways.

Unfortunately the people of this world are not quite making every effort to supplement their faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love as the Apostle encouraged us to do earlier on.

Even in the churches of Jesus, it is more often that we are given a motivational speech rather than one of discipline and perseverance. Since we have the truth, we are truly without excuse. We must make every effort to grow in our faith, and let our deeds reveal what we truly believe, and control our tongues and guard our hearts, and rather than letting our emotions rule us, we must stand on the word of the God, and reflect the ways of Christ in our lives, learning to genuinely love our brothers and sisters, and to love our neighbours and enemies in the way God would have us love them.

Who can we forgive and who can we bless today?
